Literature Text

[Warning: Themes of abuse. Do not read if it makes you uncomfortable]

A knot formed in your stomach as you fearfully entered the school. You never knew where he was lurking. He could be right behind you, and you wouldn’t even know it. You hated to think of what he would do to you once he saw you.

You wrapped your jacket tighter around your body, hoping that no one would notice the bruises and cuts.

You were able to hide your pain at home, and no one at school noticed, but you couldn’t fool Levi.

Although you and Levi rarely spoke, he had been in love with you for as long as he had known you. He couldn’t help it. Even though his reputation at school wasn’t the best, you would still show him kindness and smile at him.

Oh, your smile! His heart pounded every time he saw it.

Lately, it had altogether disappeared. Against his better judgement, he hadn’t asked you about it, but he was beginning to grow concerned as he noticed how you kept wearing long-sleeved shirts and jackets, especially since it was almost summer. He knew you were hiding something.

It had begun around the time you had started dating your boyfriend, Hector. Although it crushed his heart that you were with someone else, you looked happy, so he bottled up his feelings and left you alone.
You had started behaving abnormally soon after. He suspected abuse, but he couldn’t prove it; he could only hope that, if that was the case, you would tell somebody and get out of the relationship.

Well, you hadn’t told anyone, and it seemed to get worse. Levi decided that it was probably time to confront you.

“Oi,” he greeted you as he leaned up against the lockers next to yours. You gave him a small smile-a fake smile. Levi hated it. Did you really think that you could hide anything from him?

“Hi, Levi,” you said as cheerfully as you could muster. “How are you?”

“Tch,” he rolled his eyes. “The real question is, how are you?”

You tensed at his tone. Did he know? No, he couldn’t! He had no reason to take the time to figure it out. It wasn’t like you meant anything to him.

“I’m fine,” you replied. “I just have this really big test today that I don’t want to fail.” This was a lie. Your test wasn’t until tomorrow, but you felt like you had to explain yourself in some way to throw off any possible suspicion.

“Have you been having a lot of tests lately?” He raised an eyebrow. You nodded.

“Yea. The teachers are really laying it on us this year.” You nervously fidgeted with your hands. You were desperate to change the subject. “So…uh…how has school been going for you this year?”

He sighed deeply, seeing that he would get nothing out of you today, and walked away without saying another word. You were confused upon seeing him leave without even acknowledging your question, but you suspected that he had better things to do than to be talking to you.

He had always intrigued you, but you were always so nervous around him, probably because of your admiration for him. He acted all big and bad, but you knew that he was a good guy. It was rumored that he was in a gang, and you were told to stay away from him if you knew what was good for you, but, then, you would see him standing up to the upperclassmen that were bullying some of the underclassmen, and there was, of course, that time he had helped you carry your books when you could hardly pick all of them up.

You used to have a crush on him–sometimes you thought you still did, but you were in a relationship now. You wished you could get out of it, but you didn’t know how. Hector was so violent towards you; he constantly hurt you, but there would still be times when he showed you kindness. He might open the door for you or lend you his jacket, but these occurrences were almost non-existent nowadays.

“Hey,” you heard his voice call out to you. Maybe, if you acted like you didn’t hear him, he would leave you alone. “(Name)!”

He roughly grabbed your wrist and shoved you up against the lockers.

“I said ‘hey,’” he growled. “Are you just going to ignore me now, or do I have to beat you in order to get in answer out of you?” You lowered your head, avoiding his gaze.

“H-hi,” you whimpered. He smirked triumphantly at your response before scowling once more.

“Why were you talking to Levi just now?” He asked. “Did you tell him anything?” You shook your head.

“No. No one knows. I-I honestly don’t know why he was here,” you replied. Hector shook his head.

“Don’t think for a second that you could get away with telling him anything. He doesn’t care about you, (Name); no one really does. You’re lucky that I’m kind enough to date you!”

Tears pricked the corners of your eyes. No matter how long or how hard he beat you, it was his words that always hurt the most. They created wounds on your heart that no one would ever be able to see, and they would never be able to fully heal.

The bell rang, signaling that it was time for class.

“I have to go,” he said, releasing his grip on you. “But this isn’t over. We’ll continue this after school.”

You dreaded the end of the day. Hector always took you to where he knew no one would be, so he could do whatever he wanted without fear of anyone watching.

After classes let out, he grabbed you by the wrist and dragged you to one of these places.

He kicked you, hit you, and even cut you with his pocket knife, holding his hand over your mouth to muffle your screams. Tears fell down your cheeks. You couldn’t escape; he had pinned you down. Why did you have to be so weak? Why couldn’t you just walk away from him?

You didn’t know why he was beating you. You hadn’t done anything to anger him; it wasn’t like you had told anyone what he was doing.

But it didn’t always have to be you. He could’ve just gotten angry at some little thing and decided to take his fury out on you.

You were scared of your own boyfriend, and, if he kept this up, one day, he would kill you.

Unbeknownst to the both of you, Levi had followed you as Hector had dragged you here. He was going to find out what was going on once and for all.

Even though he suspected it, he was not prepared for the sight he saw.

His heart shattered as he saw Hector deliver each strike to your trembling body. Tears streamed down your face as you let out muffled cries of anguish.

His sorrow was instantly replaced by rage. How dare he have the audacity to do this to you! He was supposed to support you, care for you, and build you up, but, instead, he used you as his own personal punching bag.

He stormed up to Hector and pried him off of you. Hector looked at him in surprise as Levi punched him. He fell to the ground, but, before he could get up, Levi kicked him hard in the back of the head, knocking him out.

Levi wished he could’ve done more. He wanted to kill Hector for what he had done to you. If he had things his way, he would have beaten him to death, and he would have enjoyed every second of it, but he had more important things to take care of.

He rushed over to your limp form. You were still conscious, and you looked up at him in shock.

“L-Levi?” You sniffled. He wrapped an arm around you and held you tightly to his body, reassuring himself that you were alright.

“Yea, I’m here, brat,” he said, looking down at you. Your arms were cut and your face was bruised, but even that couldn’t take away your beauty in his eyes.

“You…you saved me,” you whispered. He looked away, unsure of what to say. You smiled at him and lightly pecked his cheek. “Thank you.” You could have sworn you saw him blush, but he hid it well.

Without saying another word, he picked you up and carried you, bridal style, to his car.

“Where are we going?” You asked him.

“To my place, where else?” He replied. “I’ll patch you up once we get there.”

In all honesty, your wounds were bad enough to where he should’ve just taken you to the hospital, but he wanted to be the one to care for you. He wanted to tend to each and every one of your cuts and bruises. He wanted to heal the damage that had been done to you.

You winced as the alcohol stung your open-cuts. Levi had been very thorough in his investigation of your wounds, and he was slowly bandaging them up.

He turned his attention to your face. His thumb lightly brushed against the bruise that was forming on your cheek.

“(Name), you break my heart,” he mumbled, more to himself than to you. “Why didn’t you tell anyone about this?” You shrugged.

“I…I didn’t know how to bring it up, and he always threatened me if I tried. Besides, everyone has their own problems; I didn’t want to bother them.”

Were you even hearing yourself right now? Your boyfriend had been beating you, and you didn’t tell anyone just because ‘you didn’t want to bother them.’

“Idiot!” He snarled as he stood up. “He could’ve killed you! Why the **** did you even stay in that relationship?!” You flinched as he raised his voice, and tears welled up in your eyes once again.

“H-he wanted to be with me,” you whimpered. “And he told me that no one else ever would. I mean, come on, look at me,” you said sadly. “Who else would want me?”

Pure fury surged through his body.
“Don’t you ever say that! Don’t you EVER ******* say that again!!! You don’t have a right to!!” He shouted at you. He immediately stopped once he saw the fear in your face. He took a deep breath and lowered his voice. “I don’t know what lies he told you, (Name), but don’t believe them–not for one second.”

“But…what if they aren’t lies,” you asked.

“They are,” he assured you. He sat down next to you and took your hands in his. “You deserve so much better than him. You deserve someone who will love you and take care of you.”

Your heart fluttered as his face moved closer to yours. You could see how badly he wanted to kiss you, but he was holding himself back. He wasn’t going to do anything without your permission.

“Levi…do you…” He nodded and leaned his forehead against yours.

“If you find someone who loves you even half as much as I do, I will be satisfied,” he sighed. You brought your hand up to his cheek.

“Why can’t it be you?” You asked. His eyes widened. Were you really suggesting…?

“It can be,” he told you. “If you want.”

“I do,” you said. You could see a ghost of a smile on his lips.

“Me too.” You closed the gap in between you, immediately feeling relief once your lips met. His kisses weren’t harsh or forced like Hector’s. Instead, they were gentle but passionate at the same time.

He reluctantly broke away, allowing you to catch your breath. His hands intertwined with yours, and he inspected your wrist, which was bruised from being grabbed so often. His gaze softened, and he brought your hand to his lips, kissing it gently.

“If he ever hurts you again, I’ll kill him,” Levi growled as he lightly ran his lips over your bruises. You leaned your head on his shoulder, and he wrapped an arm around you and held you closely-protectively.

Eventually, you passed out, due to physical and emotional exhaustion. Levi laid you down gently on his couch so that you would be more comfortable.

He looked down at your sleeping face. You looked so peaceful and angelic; he wondered how Hector had the heart to damage a creature as stunning as you.
Although the events from today were over, the images still replayed in Levi’s mind. It disgusted him, and he knew that these images would haunt him at night. He wished he had intervened sooner–perhaps he could have stopped it from happening.

Although he couldn’t undo what had been done in the past, he could make sure that nothing like this ever happened to you again.

He brushed a strand of hair out of your face and pressed a light kiss to your forehead.

“I’ll take care of you, (Name). I promise.”

End

I'm not sure why, but I've found that I enjoy these kinds of stories, which is proabably why I wrote this. Anyways, I hope you like it.
For more Hector, check out Chapter 5 of my LevixReader series Remember if you haven't already. Hector may appear in more of my stories in the future-it has yet to be determined. Let me know what you guys think about his character and/or whether or not you would like me to put him in more stuff. I'm curious about your opinions.

I do not own you or any characters from Attack on Titan. I just, unfortunately, own Hector.
